Description
ATOREX
ATOREX, brand of atorvastatin, is a synthetic lipid-lowering agent indicated for dyslipidemia and in those with risk factors, including Type 2 diabetes mellitus, for cardiovascular disease to prevent myocardial infarction and stroke.
Atorex lowers plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase and cholesterol synthesis in the liver and by increasing the number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell-surface to enhance uptake and catabolism of LDL; ATOREX also reduces LDL production and the number of LDL particles.
Composition
Each film coated tablet of ATOREX 10 contains:

Equivalent to Atorvastatin ….. 20 mg
Indications:
ATOREX is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce elevated levels of total-cholesterol (total-C), low density lipoprotein (LDL)-C, apoprotein (apo) B, triglyceride (TG) levels and to increase high density lipoprotein (HDL)-C in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and nonfamilial) and mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson Types IIa and Iib).
It is also advocated for dysbetalipoproteinemia in Fredrickson Type III, elevated TG levels in Fredrickson Type IV, and to reduce elevated total-C and LDL-C levels in homozygous as well as heterogenous familial hypercholesterolemia.
ATOREX is additionally useful for prevention coronary artery disease (CAD) in those without clinically evident disease but having multiple relevant risk factors such as advanced age, smoking, hypertension, low HDL-C, family history of CAD;
ATOREX is also similarly beneficial in Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients without clinically evident Coronary Artery Disease but with risk factors such as retinopathy, albuminuria, smoking or hypertension so as to reduce risk of myocardial infarction and stroke.
